“The Daemon Lover” tells the story of a woman on the day of her wedding. She is alone at her apartment, anticipating to be picked up by her fiance Jamie. She is in her 30’s and she worries about her dress and her makeup; she wants it to be age appropriate, yet somewhat deceptive, as she is concerned about her older age of marriage. She falls asleep, only to wake up well past the time Jamie was to pick her up. She searches for him throughout the city, asking neighborhood establishments if they had seen him. Eventually she think she finds him inside an apartment building, but no one answers when she knocks. The story ends clarifying she returned several times but is not answered.
